Wire #18: Arts in Health: New Opportunities for Collaboration

The Australian Performing Arts Market are continuing their Wire series with Arts in Health: New Opportunities for Collaboration, their 18th online series webinar. This event features presentations from Bebe Backhouse, Stacey Baldwin, Dr Tully Barnett, Linda Jackson and Michelle Ryan and is facilitated by Priya Pavri. They will be discussing the new possibilities for the creative collaboration between healthcare providers and performing artists.

Destigmatising Mental Illness: Matt Ottley’s ‘The Tree of Ecstasy and Unbearable Sadness’

'The Tree of Ecstasy and Unbearable Sadness' is a groundbreaking, large-scale multi-modal project weaving the worlds of literature, music and visual art together in the story of one boy’s journey into mental illness. Please join us for the screening of this 50-minute film is followed by a Q&A with its creator, intermodal artist Matt Ottley on Thursday, June 23 from 6pm at the University of Sydney.

SPHERE Presents Events Promoting Collaboration Between Arts, Science and Health

Maridulu Budyari Gumal: Sydney Partnership for Health Education Research and Enterprise, also known as SPHERE, is an academic health science partnership changing the face of Australian healthcare. They are hosting two events in June to help bring attention to their creative research outputs, including Artists to the Rescue: Collaborating to Improve Health Care and Art + Science/ Health = Wellbeing.

The Big Anxiety QLD Presents: The Big Reach

Jill Bennett, director of The Big Anxiety Festivals and Big Anxiety Research Centre at UNSW was interviewed as part of The Making Effect in 2021 . Now, The Big Anxiety QLD presents: The Big Reach; a series of events arising from concerns about the limited reach of formal support for mental health, trauma and suicidality. The Big Reach explores the potential of creative engagements to connect with people in challenging circumstances—from trauma- informed media and co-designed immersive technology, to live art, performance and psychosocial design.

The Caring Effect: Perspectives on Care

Artist Vic McEwan from The Cad Factory brings together practitioners in arts and health to offer an experiential exploration of caring. With participation from the Art Health Network, NSW and ACT, Murrumbidgee local Health district, Art Gallery of New South Wales and individual practitioners and carers, we draw you into a creative reflection on what is it to care, be caring and be cared for.
