Tom Isaacs is an independent artist and academic living on Wallumedegal land, Sydney. Working primarily in the fields of performance and textile art, he explores themes of mental health, care, and the profound importance of human relationships. In 2022, Tom completed a PhD at the University of Sydney researching the relationship between ritual, psychoanalysis and body art, and how these different streams of thought address the problem of alienation.
Recent highlights include: ‘Common Threads: Past to Future’ workshops for the City of Ryde; ‘In the Flat Field’, a collaborative exhibition with Nuno Rodrigues de Sousa at Chrissie Cotter Gallery; Anamnesis Arboretum, a live performance as part of the Canberra Art Biennial 2024; ‘Planning Creatively for your Death’, a public discussion with Victoria Spence as part of the Sydney Festival of Death and Dying 2024; ‘Controlling Chaos: Psychoanalysis, sublimation, and the “guarantee of sanity”’, Louise Bourgeois: Tides and Currents symposium at AGNSW.
